Vintage Chains Quilt Pattern
Those of you who know me know that I love vintage reproduction fabrics, especially prints that were popular during the Civil War era, and that's what I had in mind when I designed this quilt. The fabrics might not all be right-on, but it has a vintage flair. If you aren't a fan of the vintage-look, it's easy to change the quilt's look entirely by simply choosing different fabrics. I rarely sew with solids, but this is a pattern I might consider for an Amish style quilt, combining deep navy or black with brighter colors. To make the Vintage Chains quilt, you'll sew batches of two different ten-inch blocks, and then place them on point and add a couple of borders. The quilt finishes at about 84" x 98". Snail's Trail Quilt Pattern
I like the neutral theme of this Snail's Trail quilt, but the pattern will look good sewn with any contrasting fabrics you choose. The 9-inch blocks are constructed with two fabrics: one light neutral and one dark. A very dark inner border surrounds the blocks, with a wider border beyond it. The Snail's Trail quilt finishes at 70" x 77". Snail's Trail Quilt Pattern originally appeared on About.com Quilting on Saturday, January 21st, 2012 at 06:31:42. Permalink | Comment | Email this
Singer Featherweight Photo Gallery
Tiny by today's standards, when people see a vintage Singer Featherweight for the very first time they sometimes think the little sewing machines are toys, but Featherweights are actually dependable workhorses that sew an excellent straight stitch.
I've had several Featherweights over the years, like this white version. It lives at my house right now, even though I gave it to my daughter years ago. She has a Bernina, but I expect her to retrieve this little guy at some point. You'll find more photos in our Featherweight Gallery, so take a look, and then consider sending me a photo of your sewing machine. Single T Quilt Block Pattern
There are many different types of traditional T quilt quilt blocks, but the Single T block variation is one of the quickest and easiest to make. The block is made up of half-square triangle units that come together to form a very visible T shape. At first glance the T block seems a little plain, but you can create all sorts of dramatic layouts with it by turning the blocks in different directions,.

Scrappy Framed Star Quilt Block Pattern
The pattern for this Scrappy Framed Star quilt block was originally used to assemble the 2007 Anniversary Sampler quilt. The block finishes at 12" square, and looks nice when it's either straight-set or placed on-point. The design, with lots and lots of patches, is a perfect choice for your next scrap quilt.

Chariot Wheel Quilt Block Pattern
This variation of the Chariot Wheel quilt block has a few small pieces, but they're all straight-sided -- you don't have to fool with triangles. We'll use strip piecing to assemble the majority of the block, so it should be quick and easy. One thing -- sewing an accurate quarter-inch seam is important to the success of this (and most other) quilt blocks. If you're not sure your seam is accurate, brush up on your skills before you begin. Country Roads & Carolina Byways
You can change the look of the Country Roads quilt by varying its fabrics and altering the block layout. The pattern also lets you choose the size that's best for your needs -- a miniature quilt with 3" finished blocks or a wallhanging with 6" blocks. The technique is simple, but a bit different, so make a sample block or two before you cut all of your fabric -- that's not a bad idea for any new quilt pattern you tackle. When you land on the pattern page, you might think the link is bad. The quilt on page 1 definitely looks different than the quilt shown here, but they're made from the same pattern.

Harvest Stars Quilt Pattern
When fall turns to winter, the landscape progresses a into golds, browns, reds and black. You'll see those colors in Harvest Stars, a 72" x 96" quilt made from two different blocks. The way they are arranged makes it appear that the blocks are set on point, but they're actually sewn side by side (and that means you don't have to fool around with stretchy setting triangles).

Marina Blues Quilt Pattern
Marina Blues is a 68-inch square quilt made with two different quilt blocks. It was inspired by a model home I toured many, many years ago -- all teals and blues and sea-greens, with a crystal clear blue-lined pool outside the back door -- a perfect match for the Florida beach town it sat in. That house has been stuck in my mind ever since, but the theme doesn't mesh with our home in the mountains. Here, I'm mostly drawn to the colors of ferns and stones, the darker greens and browns of pine tree needles and trunks -- earth colors rather than water colors. But I love the ocean, and its varied blues and greens keep coming back to mind. I might have to convert a bathroom to this theme, and let the ocean surround me.

In the Pinks Baby Quilt Pattern
I suppose this baby quilt pattern could just as easily be called in the lavenders, but pinks is so much easier to say. The quilt is made from a combination of traditional Broken Dishes and Hour Glass quilt blocks. Blocks finish at 9-inches square and are suitable for quilters of any skill level. They're arranged on point, with setting and corner triangles filling in the jagged edges around the sides of the quilt. I added two borders, a narrow border first and then a wider outer border, but you can sew on as many as you like -- it's an easy way to alter dimensions.
