One of the quickest ways to increase the income from your home business is to develop new products or services which relate to the products you are already selling. This works for two reasons: first, you have the opportunity to sell the new products to your existing customers (if they were interested in the original product and this one is similar or relates in some way it will likely also be of interest to them); and second, you can leverage the skills and knowledge you are utilizing with your current product to develop the new ones, which saves time and effort on your part.
I have some examples below which will help you understand what I mean. But first, a little structure:
Generally speaking your products will fall into these categories:
§selling goods
§selling services, where you physically do something for another person
§selling information, where you document how to do something and then package and sell it
Start thinking about your current primary product or service, and jot down ideas on how you can sell goods, services and information that relate to it. Don't judge your ideas at this point; you want to get a lot of ideas down and you will refine them later. Try to come up with at least 20 ideas.
Here are a couple of examples:
1.Current product: You sell your children's outgrown clothing on eBay. New product ideas:
§Goods: buy clothing at garage sales and discount stores to sell on eBay
§Goods: create crafty baby item (bibs? Blankets?) and sell on eBay
§Services: offer to sell other people's outgrown clothing or garage sale items on eBay for a percentage of the receipts
§Information: write a book on best ways to sell on eBay
2.Current product: You create and sell quilts. New product ideas:
§Goods: develop a new product (baby quilts?) and sell it via the web, to local boutiques, or on eBay
§Goods: purchase sewing notions on closeout and develop sewing kits to sell
§Services: sew items to order for others
§Information: develop a book of quilt patterns or gift ideas to sew
§Information: document the tips you've learned through years of sewing which a newcomer can use to do professional work more quickly
3.Current product: You are an attorney and do legal work for small business owners. New product ideas:
§Goods: doesn't apply in this case
§Services: develop a fixed-price package for specific services you are often asked to do - for example, a "new business startup package".
§Information: write book of legal tips for business owners

It's made from four 3-1/2-inch Bear's Paw quilt blocks that are surrounded by cornerstones and pieced sashing. A dark inner border and a floral outer border complete the little quilt. Everything is quick and strip-pieced. Half square triangle units used in blocks finish at 1/2", but you can make them perfectly every time but assembling the units slightly larger than necessary and then cutting each one back to the exact size before sewing. Permalink | Comment | Email this Summertime Baskets Block in Two Sizes: 20" and 10" I love it when the native plants are blooming like crazy and blossoms and fruit are in motion. And it's an incredible sight to gaze out across the Blue Ridge Mountains in the spring to watch the progression of green as it moves higher in elevation. I call that progress greening up the mountain, and have thought forever that the theme would make a good landscape quilt. I even started a miniature version years ago in a class with Jo Diggs, and rediscovered the project awhile back when we unpacked some boxes. Now I just have to find the time to work on it. Spring and summer always brings out the basket blocks, too. This version is in the deeper colors of summer, but would work well with any theme. I think it would be lovely sewn with solid fabrics in the Amish tradition, even if you decide to add some reds and other zesty colors we don't typically see in traditional Amish quilts. I've included instructions for two blocks sizes, a 20" and a 10". Choose whichever works for you. The list includes blocks and quilts in a range of sizes, starting at 6" square (you'll find a few options for smaller blocks) and moving upwards. Star blocks are the perfect starting point for holiday quilts -- just change the fabrics to make any pattern to suit your needs. Star quilts are often made up of half square triangle units, a popular quilting component that you'll encounter often. The Domino quilt block pattern includes instructions for making a single quilt block, for those of you who like to go scrappy, plus directions for 20-strip pieced Dominos. The 20 blocks can be used in the Domino baby quilt shown on page 4 of the pattern, or in another quilt of your own design. Some of the blocks feature applique motifs, but you can eliminate the applique if you wish, or use one of my easy suggestions to simplify construction while still adding a bit of variety to the windows. Use different colors to create your own unique theme, and sew fewer or more blocks to alter its finished size. Setting-in is not a difficult method -- do give it a try. Greek Cross is such a simple block, but it can be either traditional or dramatic, depending on your fabric choices.
